Doctors of Medicine
Has your client or a claimant suffered a physical or emotional injury recently or in the past? Is there a question about the impact of this physical or emotional injury on your client’s or a claimant’s ability to do certain activities or take responsibility for certain acts? Perhaps a clinician is being investigated for negligence? Doctors of medicine are qualified, registered with the General Medical Council (GMC), and trained to diagnose and treat medical conditions, perform medical procedures, prescribe medications, interpret diagnostic tests, and advise on lifestyle changes. They can make expert judgements on all of these areas in an assessment but there are lots of different specialities to select from and consider.
Do you need an expert opinion on a medical issue?
Where there is a question over someone’s mental state, you may need to instruct a psychiatrist – a doctor of medicine who has received advanced training in mental health. Where there is an additional neurological feature, it could be advisable to consult with a neuropsychiatrist.

They can assess the standard of care that someone received and offer opinions on diagnoses and treatment plans.
